The verbal sparring between Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi and Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has escalated, with both issuing threats against each other.
Responding to CM Gandapur’s threat to shut down the governor’s house, Governor Kundi asserted his constitutional position, vowing to defend the institution. He stated, “I am in a constitutional position… I will safeguard the governor’s house. If Ali Amin Gandapur wishes to stage a rehearsal tomorrow, I am prepared.”
Stressing the need for the provincial government to prioritise public service over issuing threats, Kundi expressed his commitment to mediate between the federation and the province. “Our focus should be on serving the people,” he maintained.
Kundi also urged Chief Minister Gandapur to adopt a more respectful tone in his rhetoric. “If he fails to adjust his language, he will receive a fitting response,” Kundi warned. He also alleged that food was sent to Ali Amin Gandapur from the house of Khurshid Shah in Sukkur Jail upon the instructions of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari during his imprisonment in Sindh.
Highlighting the alleged electoral malpractice in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kundi accused JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman of having his mandate stolen in the province while holding rallies in Sindh. He pledged to engage with all political leaders in K-P for the province’s development.
In a sarcastic tone, Kundi remarked that in Islamabad, Gandapur might find an expressway to escape, but in K-P, he would face accountability on the streets. Warning the chief minister to watch his language, Kundi cautioned, “I will respond in kind to any disrespectful remarks in the future.”
Earlier, Chief Minister Gandapur, while appearing in court in DI Khan, cautioned Governor Kundi against engaging in political discussions, reminding him of his constitutional role.
Gandapur warned that failure to heed his warning would result in the cessation of grants, vehicles, and petrol, and the declaration of the Governor’s House as a historical heritage site with free public access.
