LAHORE:The opposition alliance, Tehreek-e- Tahaffuz-e-Aain-e-Pakistan (Constitution Protection Movement of Pakistan), has announced plans to initiate a nationwide campaign aimed at restoring the Constitution and demanding apologies from those who violate Pakistan’s constitutional laws.
This decision was reached during a gathering of the opposition coalition, chaired by Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Chairman of TTAP. The meeting was attended by figures including Umar Ayub Khan, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Asad Qaiser, Central Leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Chairman of Sunni Ittehad Council, Sajid Khan Tareen, Acting President of Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M), as well as senior leaders Sanaullah Baloch, Asad Abbas Naqvi, and Syed Nasir Shirazi of Majlis-e-WahdatulMuslimeen (MWM).
Leaders of the opposition coalition denounced the ISPR’s press conference of May 7, labeling it as unconstitutional and an abuse of authority. They dismissed the establishment’s call for an apology from PTI leadership as unfounded, asserting that those who violate the Constitution should apologise to the nation.
The gathering evaluated the current political landscape and ratified significant decisions pertaining to a nationwide movement. It was agreed to pursue legal avenues for permission to hold public rallies in Karachi and Faisalabad, denouncing efforts by local authorities to impede these gatherings.
The coalition emphasised their right to assemble and declared their intention to proceed with rallies regardless of obstacles. They decried the erosion of democracy and constitutional principles in the country, vowing to persist until constitutional norms are reinstated.
Moreover, the opposition coalition strongly condemned the recent violence against lawyers at the Lahore High Court and the tragic incident in Gwadar. They reiterated their commitment to continue their movement until the Constitution is restored and the rule of law prevailed.
Additionally, the coalition outlined plans for a nationwide campaign, including engagements with bar councils, seminars, and rallies to raise awareness among the public and media.
During the meeting, participants expressed solidarity with the families of the victims of terrorism in Gwadar and denounced the mistreatment of lawyers and farmers. They pledged support for farmers’ demands and called for accountability against wheat importers implicated in wrongdoing.
