According to a media report, Chief Minister of the region Haji Gulbar Khan while presiding over a high level meeting to review the progress of work of 16 megawatts power project Nultar as well as electricity situation of the area has said that electricity short-fall would be worst in the winter season. As per report, he further said that 16 megawatts project has great significance for the provision of electricity to the Gilgit city and its suburbs and due to non-completion of the said project, people of the area were facing hardships. According to media report, Chief Minister of the region has said that further delay in completion of the said project was not possible, therefore, the civil work of the project including the generator sets and lying of transmission should be completed according to time-line given for the completion of project and supply of electricity from the 16 megawatts projects be ensured from 1st November 2024. Earlier, Principal Secretary to CM has also written a letter to the concern authorities of HMC Taxila for completion of the project before the 30th October 2024 in order to overcome the electricity shortage in the area.
Chief Minister of the region had also carried-out the visit of 16 megawatts power project site and had directed the concern quarters of the government to take all necessary measures for the completion of said power project by 30th October 2024, so that the electricity load-shedding duration could be minimized during the winter season. It may be essential to point out here that due to non-completion of the said projects for the last 15 years , people of the area were facing electricity shortage even in the summer season, where-as only three-four hours electricity was being provided to the consumers in the winter season. Now according to a media report, Chief Minister of the region has presided over a high-level meeting to review the electricity situation of Gilgit city including the completion of 16 megawatts power project of Nultar and once again directed to the concern quarters of the government to complete the civil work of the project by 30th October 2024 in any case and ensure the supply of electricity from the said power house on 1st November 2024, which is indeed good news for the consumers of Gilgit city and in case of completion of the said project by the given time (i.e 30th October 2024), consumers of Gilgit city and its suburbs would get the electricity in the winter season and efforts of the Chief Minister and his team with regards to the 16 megawatts power project were highly appreciable. It could be expected that the concern quarters of the government would utilize all available resources to get complete the said power project by the given date, so that load-shedding duration could be minimized in the area especially during the winter season. It may also be imperative to mention here that contract work of the 16 megawatts power project was given to the HMC Taxila during the year 2010, but despite of lapse of 15 years, this project was not yet completed by the concern contractor/ firm due to which people of the area have to bear hours long electricity load-shedding.We may expect that concern quarters of the government in collaboration with the contractor/firm would get complete the important power project of the area by 30th October 2024, so that the electricity could be supplied to the consumers from 1st November 2024
