GILGIT: The Government of Gilgit-Baltistan has today taken significant steps to enhance the IT sector in the region by signing two separate Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs).
The first MoU, inked with the Pakistan Software Export Promotion Board and the IT Department of Gilgit-Baltistan, aims to establish functional Software Technology Hubs in Ghizer, Diamer, and Hunza.
These hubs will serve as vital centers for innovation, with the Software Technology Parks and the Software Promotion Board providing essential technical assistance for their operations.
The second MoU, signed in collaboration with the Special Communications Organization (SCO), the IT Department, and the Education Department of Gilgit-Baltistan, focuses on establishing 14 IT centers in various schools across the region. This initiative will enhance digital literacy and provide students with access to essential IT resources.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including Advisor IT Ms. Surraiya Zaman, Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Mr. Ibrar Ahmed Mirza, Sector Commander SCO Colonel Faheem, Secretary Education Mr. Akhtar Hussain Rizvi, and Secretary IT Mr. Riaz Ahmed.During her address at the event, Advisor IT Ms.
Surraiya Zaman emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering the IT industry in Gilgit-Baltistan. She highlighted the importance of these collaborations in paving the way for the region to become a prominent IT hub. Ms. Zaman also underscored that the government will provide training and professional linkages for students and youth, empowering them for future opportunities in the IT sector.
These initiatives mark a pivotal development in Gilgit-Baltistan’s journey toward digital transformation and economic growth.
