Regional Assembly has adopted a unanimous resolution regarding the payment of compensation amount of land as per prevailing market rate and it was further contended in the resolution that WAPDA was failed to implement the agreement’s executed in the year 2020 and 2015. It was also pointed in the resolution that 18000 acres land was acquired for the conduction of Diamer-Basha dam and not a single penny was paid to the land owners, where-as there was big difference in payment of compensation amount of the lands acquired for Diamer-Basha dam and Dassu dam as the nature/status of the land of the both areas were same and why the land owners of the Daimer-Basha dam were treated in discriminatory in terms of payment of the compensation amount. Resolution was jointly tabled by the regional government Minister Engineer Muhammad Anwar, Leader of Opposition KazimMeasam and Member Assembly JavedManwa pertaining to affected people of the Diamer-Basha Dam and during the debate, It was also highlighted that alternate land has not yet been provided to the affected people of the dam and work was not being carried out in the development schemes advanced by the WAPDA.
Construction of Diamer-Basha dam was under consideration for the last several years in order to generate the hydro-electricity on cheap rates, so that the ongoing load-shedding of the country could be resolved, where-as thousands of acres of land was acquired by the WAPDA in collaboration with the administration of the region and billions of rupees were paid to the land owners of the area. Now the Assembly of the region has adopted a unanimous resolution regarding the payment of compensation amount of 18000 acres of land acquired for the dam purpose according to prevailing market rates. It was further contended in the resolution that the status of the land of Daimer and Khohistan area were same, but there was bieg difference between the compensation amount paid to the land owners of Daimer-Basha Can and Dassu dam and Assembly of the area has raised the question why the land owners of Daimer-Basha dam were treated discriminatory manner with regards to the payment of compensation amount and why the less payment was made to the people of District Daimer. Members of the Assembly while taking part in the debate has pointed out that WAPDA authorities were failed to give effect to the agreements made in 2010 and 1015 and alter land was not yet provided to the affected people of the dam, where-as work was not being carried out in the development schemes advanced/ initiated by the WAPDA. If there was difference between the rates of compensation amount paid to the land owners of Daimer-Basha dam and Dassu dam, It was required to be re-considered by the concern quarters of the government as the nature/status of the lands belonging to people of the both areas were same and they are equally entitle to get the compensation amount at the same rates. We would urge the concern quarters/WAPDA to consider the resolution of regional Assembly and ensure the payment of compensation amount of 18000 acres of lands acquired for Daimer-Bashadam, if payment was not made to the land owners
